Serving Rockland and Orange Counties since 1934
It is 1934, the middle of the Great Depresssion. Moviegoers flock to see It Happened One Night, starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert. The Dionne quintuplets are born. The United States Department of Justice offers a $25,000 reward for John Dillinger. And SOS XTREME Comfort® is founded by Murray Spiegel upon this principle:
“Hard work, attention to detail, fair market price and the understanding that your name is more important than profit for a short-term gain.”
In the years to follow, SOS has grown to become one of the largest suppliers of residential propane and heating oil in both Rockland and Orange counties, providing enhanced quality #2 heating oil, premium diesel and branded gasoline to homes, businesses and farms in the area.
Our Mission
During everything we do at SOS, we never lose sight of the customer. What is a customer? A customer is …
- The most important person ever in the office, in person, by mail or by phone;
- Not dependent on us … we’re dependent on the customer;
- Not an interruption of our work, but the purpose of it;
- Not an outsider to our business, but the vital core of it;
- Not a cold statistic, but a human being with feelings and emotions like our own;
- Not someone to argue or match wits with (Nobody ever won an argument with a customer.); and
- A person who brings wants and needs to us; for us to handle satisfactorily for the customer and for us.
Without a customer, there is no work. Without work, there is no purpose to us.
Our Storage Facility
Our own 300,000-gallon oil and diesel fuel storage facility gives us a competitive advantage because we can (1) buy bulk quantities of fuel, (2) guarantee product quality and continual supply and (3) buy fuel in advance to help protect our customers from price spikes.
Our Focus: Dependability
Our ability to deliver ample supplies of fuel when you need it isn’t just limited to our storage facilities. Our delivery fleet is exceptionally equipped to ensure the best service. We maintain our company-owned fleet of 15 tank trucks and 18 service vehicles, and an emergency 4×4 vehicle that can deliver during a blizzard at our main terminal and garage in Tuxedo, NY. This allows us to meet all the needs of our customers. (We also equip all our vehicles with backup cameras, to help provide additional security and a safer working environment.)
SOS is among the first in the oil heating industry to use the latest in wireless technology to improve delivery performance and reduce back office paperwork. The result is a seamless network from delivery truck to office that allows greater accountability, control and immediate availability of information. Routes are created and assigned visually to each truck. The dispatcher can view the trucks and their course, speed and location, as well as pending deliveries and inventory. And each truck is equipped with an onboard computer to process and control all functions, including global positioning.
For more than 80 years we’ve embraced new technologies in order to safely deliver cost-effective products and solutions for our valued customers.
